Watch: Did Tesla really just unveil a flying car?
A new version of Tesla’s Roadster electric sports car, equipped with thrusters that apparently allow it to hover and turn in mid‑air, was unveiled in Texas. “You’re going to see some crazy stuff tonight,” Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, said as he presented the vehicle at a facility owned by his SpaceX company, which helped develop the model. Musk noted that an audience was needed to prove the car “is not AI” before demonstrating the Roadster driving up a steep ramp, launching into the air, spinning, and landing using air jets. However, as BBC technology editor Zoe Kleinman explains, there are several reasons why a flying car is unlikely to appear on public roads anytime soon. Video editor: Serene Khalifeh.
