Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah honors Karsaz victims

Karachi – While remembering the victims of the 2007 Karsaz tragedy, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said their sacrifice has reinforced the foundations of Pakistan’s democracy. On October 18, 2007, the streets of Karachi came to a standstill as former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto returned from an eight‑year self‑imposed exile that had taken her to Dubai and London. As her convoy moved from the airport toward Quaid‑e‑Azam’s tomb, two bombs detonated in front of the rally truck shortly after it crossed a bridge. The attack claimed the lives of roughly 180 Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers who had gathered to welcome her. In a statement released on October 18, 2026, the chief minister described the incident as a cowardly assault on PPP supporters and called it a stark reminder of the enduring sacrifices made for democratic progress. He praised the fallen as having written a new chapter of courage through their selfless acts, noting that even after the explosions, many PPP supporters continued to protect Bhutto at great personal risk. Murad Ali Shah asserted that the martyrs’ sacrifices will not be forgotten and that the PPP remains steadfast in pursuing its mission. He added that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are carrying forward the democratic struggle initiated by those who gave their lives. The chief minister concluded by saying that the sorrow of the Karsaz tragedy still resonates deeply in the hearts of Pakistanis.
