Lowry becomes first ever TGL trade, joins McIlroy at Boston Common Golf
Shane Lowry will become the inaugural player to be moved in the TMRW Golf League (TGL) as he prepares to team up with Rory McIlroy at Boston Common Golf for the 2027 season. The 39‑year‑old Irish golfer makes the switch ahead of TGL’s third season, which will be staged at the SoFi Centre in Florida and blends traditional golf with advanced technology.
Lowry spent the first two campaigns playing for The Bay Golf Club. With rosters expanding to five players for the upcoming year, he will now join six‑time major champion McIlroy. Last season, Boston Common Golf featured USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley alongside Masters winners Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama.
In exchange for Lowry, The Bay will receive Boston Common Golf’s fourth draft pick to fill its vacant roster spot, an additional future selection over the next three seasons, and other commercial considerations.
McIlroy, who co‑founded TGL with Tiger Woods and Mike McCarley, praised the 2019 Open champion as “a great friend” and said he enjoys playing with him. “We’ve had some special wins together, including at the Zurich Classic, and I know the quality of his game and how much he cares about winning for his teammates,” he said. “I’m delighted to welcome him to Boston Common Golf and excited about what we can achieve together this season.”
Lowry, fresh from his Irish Open victory at Doonbeg in September, expressed his enthusiasm about the move. “Having Rory alongside me and being part of this group makes it particularly exciting, and I’m looking forward to helping the team bring a championship to Boston,” he said.
In other league news, the newly formed Motor City Golf Club announced five‑time major winner Brooks Koepka as its first signing.
