Lawyers Assault Contractor Touqeer Nazir During Multan Hearing Over Waseem Abbas Murder
A group of lawyers allegedly attacked contractor Touqeer Nazir while he was being presented before a Multan court on Tuesday in connection with the death of 15‑year‑old Waseem Abbas, an orphan who was killed after being struck by a speeding vehicle in a private housing estate. Witnesses say several lawyers grew angry during the proceedings and are reported to have slapped and punched the accused. The judge approved a police request for a physical remand, sending Touqeer Nazir to police custody for four days for further investigation.
Police had earlier detained Touqeer in relation to the incident and seized the car involved. A murder case was filed against him based on a police complaint. According to authorities, Waseem had been learning electrical work under Touqeer’s supervision. In his first statement, the contractor claimed the teenager often left the workshop without permission and that he had tried to stop him. He said he pursued Waseem in his car after the teen fled on foot, accompanied by a man identified as Amjad Ali. During the chase, the speeding vehicle hit the boy, who then struck a house gate and died at the scene, police said.
Orphanage administrator Jawad Haider confirmed that Waseem, a resident of Muzaffargarh, was 15 years old and had lived in the orphanage for six years before being placed with Touqeer to learn the trade. Waseem’s cousin, Nadeem, said the teenager frequently expressed a desire to quit the apprenticeship and return home. Police continue to investigate the case to establish all the facts and determine responsibility.
