KP police ask for 120% salary allowance for staff in southern, merged districts
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have submitted a detailed proposal to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi seeking higher security‑challenge allowances for their officers and billions of rupees in extra funding for weapons, equipment, transport and development projects. The document outlines that personnel stationed in the southern and merged districts should receive an allowance equal to 120 percent of their basic pay. Officers in other settled districts are slated for an allowance of 100 percent of basic salary, while those serving in the Hazara region would get 75 percent.
The summary notes that the KP police have been engaged in anti‑terrorism operations for three decades, yet their salaries remain lower than those of police in other provinces. The proposed allowances would add more than Rs 5.15 billion to the monthly budget.
In addition to the allowances, the police request the release of funds earmarked for procurement in the 2026‑27 fiscal year to address shortages of firearms, protective gear, surveillance tools and vehicles. The ask includes over Rs 11.16 billion for settled districts and more than Rs 3.35 billion for the merged districts. A further Rs 13.87 billion is sought for modern weapons, equipment and transport, covering items such as sub‑machine guns, rifles, 5.56 mm firearms, bullet‑proof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights, binoculars, anti‑drone guns and advanced counter‑drone systems. The police also want armored personnel carriers and pickup trucks to improve mobility and operational readiness.
The proposal also calls for Rs 4.64 billion to complete 19 ongoing development projects, over Rs 2.74 billion for technical upgrades and additional procurement, and Rs 4.841 billion for police schemes under the Accelerated Implementation Programme. In total, Rs 12.22 billion is requested for development and scheme funding.
According to the summary, releasing these funds is essential to finish infrastructure work, modernise police capabilities and maintain operational preparedness amid ongoing security challenges. The allowances and financial requests remain subject to the standard approval process.
