Main suspect Touqeer Nazir killed in Punjab CCD encounter over Waseem Abbas case
MULTAN – The principal accused in the death of 15‑year‑old orphan Waseem Abbas, Touqere Nazir, died during an alleged encounter with Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) on Wednesday in Bahawalpur, police said.
According to CCD officials, Nazir had fled police custody in Multan, leading authorities to set up a roadblock to recapture him. Officers attempted to stop two motorcyclists near the Northern Bypass in Bahawalpur, but the suspects allegedly opened fire while trying to escape. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, a man was killed and later identified as Touqere Nazir. Police have not released further details about the incident.
Waseem Abbas was killed a day earlier when a speeding car driven by Nazir struck him in a private housing society in Multan. CCTV footage of the crash later emerged. Following the incident, police arrested Nazir, seized the vehicle and filed a murder case based on a complaint. On Tuesday, a court ordered his remand in police custody for four days to facilitate further investigation, but he was killed before the remand period ended.
Investigators said Waseem had been learning electrical work under Nazir. In his initial statement, Nazir claimed the teenager left work without permission and that he tried to stop him. Police reported that Nazir pursued Waseem on foot before switching to a car, accompanied by another man identified as Amjad Ali. During the chase, the vehicle allegedly hit Waseem, sending him into the gate of a house where he died at the scene.
Nazir later told investigators that he was attempting to block Waseem’s path when his car skidded, causing the teenager to slip and become trapped between the vehicle and the house gate. He maintained that the car could not stop after skidding, leading to the fatal collision.
