Woman discovered dead in Karachi’s Defence Phase 8
KARACHI — Police said a woman’s body was found on Monday in an apartment in Defence Phase 8. The deceased has been identified as 36‑year‑old Shumaila, and early investigations indicate she took her own life by cutting her hamstrings. Her remains were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy, and a probe has been opened to learn more about her background, family and the events that led to her death.
In a separate incident, an elderly couple who had recently returned from Canada were discovered dead with signs of violence in a North Karachi house, prompting authorities to register a double‑murder case. The case was lodged at Sir Syed Police Station after a complaint from Muhammad Anwar, the brother of the male victim. The victims were identified as Yameen and his wife, Nafisa Akhtar.
According to Anwar, Yameen had begun renovating the home after his return and had asked his sister to move out. When the couple stopped answering calls, Anwar grew worried, went to the residence, used a spare key to open the door and found his brother and sister‑in‑law lying in a pool of blood in the television lounge. He immediately notified the police.
The complainant alleges that unknown assailants killed the couple for reasons that remain unclear. Post‑mortem examinations at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital revealed severe head injuries, suggesting the victims may have been struck with a heavy object. Police have yet to locate the laborers who were working on the house and are questioning workers in the neighbourhood to piece together the circumstances and identify any suspects.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has asked the Senior Superintendent of Police, Central, for a full briefing on the case. He directed the police to act swiftly, to examine every angle of the investigation, to comply with all legal requirements and to submit a detailed report on the incident and preliminary findings.
