Mir Raza Family Demands Joint Investigation Team and Public Release of Inquiry Report

KARACHI — The father of murdered entrepreneur Mir Raza, Mir Hussain, called on Monday for the creation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to examine his son’s killing, ARY News reported. Speaking outside the courtroom with his lawyer, advocate Jibran Nasir, Hussain accused the police of negligence, saying the judicial commission’s findings confirmed his fears. He urged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and deputy chief minister Faryal Talpur to hand over the commission’s report to the family and to make it public after the recent cabinet meeting. Hussain also demanded that any police officers deemed negligent by the commission be held accountable, noting that the family had repeatedly highlighted the police’s poor performance, shortcomings and deficiencies through the media. He added that the commission’s open‑court proceedings validated these concerns and reiterated his call for strict action against the responsible officers.

The Sindh government has now received the sealed judicial commission report on the Mir Raza Ali case, Additional Secretary Home Javed Abro announced on Thursday. Abro said the government will decide the next steps, emphasizing that while the commission’s hearings were conducted publicly, the final report was delivered in a sealed envelope. The receipt of the report marks the next phase of the investigation, with further decisions now resting with the provincial authorities.

The commission, chaired by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, recorded statements from 49 individuals, held 15 hearings and took two testimonies via video link. It was formed on August 24. Mir Raza Ali’s body was discovered in the Gulistan‑e‑Jauhar area on July 29. An initial post‑mortem was performed, followed by a second examination after the body was exhumed. The commission’s report examines evidence and findings related to the police investigation, the medico‑legal department and the Health Department, and it assesses institutional shortcomings associated with the case. The document was prepared in accordance with the terms of reference set by the Sindh government, which will now decide whether to release it publicly. Meanwhile, the family continues to press for the establishment of a Joint Investigation Team to pursue the matter further.
