Karl-Anthony Is Treating the NBA Season’s Opening Day Like Any Other
Tonight marks what many expect to be the most watched opening night in NBA history, as the New York Knicks begin the 2026‑2027 campaign against the Philadelphia 76ers. The city buzzes with pride after the Knicks captured the championship last summer, yet center Karl‑Anthony Towns approaches the evening with a calm that feels ordinary. “Tonight and another seven months!” Towns told Vogue during a phone interview on the day of the opener.
He started his morning with a lengthy commute—over an hour—to the practice facility, then returned home for a simple dinner of chicken and pasta. “Nothing extraordinary,” he said. “It’s the discipline and the routine that make the days easier to go through—especially when they’re difficult.”
Beyond training, nutrition and rest, many players rely on fashion to feel confident, and Towns is no exception. He cited teammate Jordan Clarkson’s unmistakable style as a major influence, noting, “JC does a great job of presenting his personality, his vibe to people through his fashion.” When asked about his own look for the tunnel walk, Towns admitted he hadn’t settled on anything until later in the day. “A lot of the time, I just go off the vibe of how I feel when I wake up,” he explained.
After a brief nap, Towns chose a custom Thom Browne Canadian tuxedo for the game. He also confirmed his jewelry selections: a Bvlgari watch, a Serpenti bracelet and a ring gifted by his wife. “Jewelry is often a jumping‑off point for me, especially with how much body I have to play with,” he joked. “You could wear something as simple as a white T‑shirt, but if you put it with the right accessories, it looks well put‑together.”
For Towns, clothing is also a way to honor his time in New York. He believes he has collected every piece of Knicks championship merchandise available, but the item he values most isn’t for sale. “I mean, having my Game 5 jersey, that’s probably my favorite New York piece for real,” he said.
