Gaza Family Reunion: Reuniting After the Ceasefire
A captain serving in Gaza’s Civil Defence, known as Moumen, spends more than a year separated from his loved ones by relentless conflict. One day after a “ceasefire” is declared, his wife and children set out from the Nuseirat refugee camp, shouldering all their belongings as they walk north along Gaza’s long coastal road. Their destination is the spot where Moumen is waiting, hopeful that the truce will finally allow them to be together again.
While the family navigates the difficult terrain, Moumen stands at the end of the road, anxiously watching for their arrival. With no phone signal and thousands of displaced people moving across the same routes, locating one another becomes a near‑impossible task.
The story of their journey is captured in the documentary “Gaza Family Reunion,” directed by Mohammed Sawwaf, Salah al‑Haw, Ibrahim al‑Otla and Mohammed Masharawi. The film was released on 18 October 2026.
