Husband taken into custody for killing wife months after love marriage in Karachi
A 21‑year‑old woman identified as Sawera was found dead at her husband’s home in New Karachi, police said on Wednesday. The death occurred roughly one and a half months after the couple’s love marriage. Her family has accused her husband, Sarfaraz, of involvement in the murder. According to Sawera’s mother, Zeenat, Sarfaraz was already married before he wed her daughter, making the union his second. Zeenat also claimed that other individuals took part in the killing and urged a thorough probe. She appealed to Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho for protection of her family and for those responsible to be brought to justice, adding that she believed the police investigation had been inadequate. Zeenat noted that Sawera was an orphan she had raised despite severe financial and personal hardships, and she demanded accountability for her daughter’s death. Police said the case remains under investigation and that further steps will follow the receipt of DNA results.
In a separate incident, the body of 36‑year‑old Shumaila was discovered in a flat in Defence Phase 8 on Monday, according to ARY News citing police. Initial findings suggested she may have died by suicide after cutting the tendons in her legs. Her body was transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy and required legal procedures. Shumaila’s husband told investigators that his wife had injected a boil into her wrist, and her family reported that she had been experiencing mental health issues. South Karachi SSP Mahzoor Ali said Shumaila’s brother declined to pursue legal action. Police have opened an inquiry to gather more information about the woman, her relatives and the circumstances surrounding her death.
