Turkish FA bans 147 officials for breaching betting rules

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan is among 147 club officials who have received 45‑day suspensions from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for violating betting regulations, BBC Sport reports.

The sanctions follow a September announcement that 448 individuals had been provisionally suspended and referred to the TFF’s professional football disciplinary board over accusations that they placed bets while serving in official capacities. Under TFF rules, which mirror those of FIFA and UEFA, players, coaches and match officials are prohibited from any betting activity.

The TFF said those under investigation had held positions at clubs in Turkey’s top two divisions during the past five years. After reviewing the cases, the federation determined that 147 of the officials had indeed breached the betting rules and will be barred from performing football‑related duties for the duration of their bans. In the remaining 301 cases, the board found insufficient evidence to proceed with disciplinary action.

The crackdown on gambling in Turkish football has intensified over the past year. In November 2025, the TFF’s investigation led to bans for 149 referees and 1,204 players.
