Kate Middleton Shines in Princess Diana’s Beloved Tiara at Oman State Banquet
Tonight, at Windsor Castle’s state banquet celebrating the Sultan of Oman, the Princess of Wales chose a look that mixed tradition with contemporary style. She arrived in a fresh yellow gown by Elie Saab, and complemented it with a treasured family piece often associated with Princess Diana: the Queen Mary Lover’s Knot tiara.
The sparkle did not stop at her head. Catherine added an Anya Hindmarch clutch that glittered, wore Queen Mary’s diamond choker bracelet, and displayed the badge, sash and star of the Royal Victorian Order, as is customary for such occasions.
This marks the second time this year that the princess has worn the tiara. In March she paired it with a chiffon forest‑green dress by Andrew Gn for the Nigerian state banquet, a nod to Nigeria’s flag colours.
The tiara’s history links directly to Princess Diana, who frequently wore it after it was presented to her by Queen Elizabeth. Originally commissioned from the House of Garrard in 1913 for Queen Mary, the piece is a replica of the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara and is set with diamonds and pearls in silver and gold.
The banquet concludes the first day of a three‑day state visit, the first Omani visit to the United Kingdom in 44 years. Earlier in the day, the Princess of Wales greeted the Sultan of Oman at Windsor Castle wearing a cherished green Alexander McQueen coat and a classic quilted Chanel handbag.
