Sindh Government Orders Closure of Private Schools in Unsafe Premises

The education department of Sindh has announced a zero‑tolerance stance toward private schools operating in hazardous or dilapidated structures. Effective immediately, all teaching activities must cease in buildings deemed unsafe, officials said on Tuesday.

A province‑wide audit of private school facilities is to be launched within the next 15 days, with school administrators instructed to relocate students and staff to safer locations. The department warned that any continued use of dangerous premises will not be tolerated.

The upcoming survey will assess each school’s infrastructure, flagging any buildings that are unsafe or partially damaged. School associations have been told to enforce safety standards without delay, and the government will also re‑examine the registration status of private schools housed in substandard facilities.

“Legal action will be taken against the schools in dangerous buildings, which could be closed if required,” a senior official said. Unregistered institutions will be identified and face legal consequences.

Authorities have asked for a detailed report on the inspections and the number of affected students to be submitted within the 15‑day timeframe.
