SPFL opens bidding for new Scottish Premiership TV rights

The Scottish Professional Football League has announced that it will invite broadcasters to submit proposals for the United Kingdom television rights to the Scottish Premiership beginning with the 2029‑30 season. The league’s current five‑year contract with Sky Sports, worth £150 million and allowing up to 60 matches per season, started last term and is set to expire at the end of the 2028‑29 campaign. Premier Sports also holds the right to broadcast up to 22 top‑flight fixtures each season, but the SPFL says it remains open to adjusting the number of live games in future agreements.

“Securing strong broadcast partnerships is an essential element in maintaining a balanced and sustainable income mix for the SPFL and its clubs,” said SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster. “We anticipate strong interest from broadcasters in what is widely recognised as one of Europe’s most exciting national league competitions.”

The league added that a separate deal with Premier Sports covering broadcast and sponsorship rights for the Scottish League Cup will continue at least through the 2030‑31 season and is not affected by the current invitation for new Premiership rights.
