New details surface in the killing of 15‑year‑old Waseem Abbas in Multan

Multan – The family of 15‑year‑old Waseem Abbas, an orphan who died after being hit by a speeding vehicle in a private housing society, has spoken to the press about his background and called for justice.

Waseem’s cousin, Nadeem, told reporters that the boy had spent the last six years in an orphanage. He described the teenager as mischievous and said Waseem often complained about continuing his electrical apprenticeship, insisting he wanted to go back home. According to the family, Waseem never returned home after he started training as an electrician.

The relatives said they did not know Touqeer Nazir, the man accused of chasing the teenager, and had never met him before the incident.

Waseem’s maternal grandfather explained that he had placed the boy in the orphanage after his father’s death, hoping the institution would provide education and a better future rather than a life on the streets. He added that after Waseem’s mother married his paternal uncle, both Waseem and his brother were sent to the orphanage, a detail confirmed by local residents. The grandfather demanded that whoever is responsible for his grandson’s death be held accountable.

Police have now arrested Touqeer Nazir, a contractor who is alleged to have pursued Waseem in a car. The vehicle involved has also been seized, and a murder case has been filed against the suspect. Authorities say Waseem was learning electrical work under Touqeer’s supervision. In his first statement, the suspect claimed the teenager left the work site without permission and that he tried to stop him. He said he followed Waseem in his car to catch him.

According to police, Waseem was initially chased on foot before Touqeer, accompanied by a man identified as Amjad Ali, gave chase in the vehicle. The car struck the boy, who then collided with the gate of a house and died at the scene.

Jawad Haider, the administrator of the orphanage, confirmed that Waseem was an orphan residing at the facility and that he had been handed over to Touqeer for electrical training. Waseem, originally from Muzaffargarh, was 15 years old at the time of his death.
