Police Question Home Workers After Elderly Couple Found Dead in North Karachi
Police in Karachi have taken several home‑repair workers into custody for questioning after the bodies of an elderly couple were discovered inside their residence in the Sir Syed area of North Karachi. According to police officials, a carpenter, a plumber and a painter were on the job at the house. The plumber had already finished his work, while the carpenter and the painter were still on the premises when the murders were discovered.
Investigators have recorded statements from the three workers and are interviewing them as part of the probe. They have also taken statements from close relatives of the victims and from neighbours. CCTV footage from the neighbourhood has been obtained, but police say the video that shows people entering and leaving the house is not clear enough to identify anyone.
A mobile phone recovered from the scene has been sent to a forensic lab for further analysis. Authorities are also seeking information from family members who are arriving from Canada, and the couple’s children are expected to reach Karachi by tomorrow.
The post‑mortem reports reveal that both victims suffered severe head injuries. The police surgeon identified the deceased as Muhammad Yamin, aged between 65 and 70, and his wife, Nafis Akhtar, aged between 60 and 65. Both had deep, serious injuries to their heads, leading investigators to suspect they were struck with a heavy, blunt object. Samples taken from the bodies will undergo chemical testing to determine whether either victim was administered poison or any intoxicating substance before the attack.
Police say the ongoing investigation will rely on the statements of the detained workers and the forensic results to clarify the circumstances surrounding the double homicide.
