Gang behind smuggling of 230 Afghan nationals arrested in Karachi

A joint raid by the Sindh Rangers and District West Police in Karachi’s Surjani Town area led to the arrest of five men suspected of running an inter‑provincial human‑smuggling ring, ARY News reported. The individuals identified by a Rangers spokesperson are Abdul Aziz, Muhammad Bakhsh, Ali Hassan, Nadeem and Jamil.

According to officials, the suspects were moving undocumented Afghan citizens from the coastal town of Hub to Karachi, while also providing them with temporary shelter in Hub. During the operation, authorities seized firearms, ammunition, narcotics and several loader vehicles from the men’s belongings.

Investigators say the smugglers avoided detection by traveling on unpaved routes that pass through Manghopir, Band Murad and Surjani Town. They reportedly charged each family a fee of Rs 200,000 for transport to the city. Early findings indicate that the group has already brought 230 illegal Afghan nationals into Karachi.

The spokesperson added that the operation relied on small cars and motorcycles to ferry the migrants. Police continue to conduct raids in an effort to apprehend additional members of the smuggling network.
