Prime Minister to travel to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week after governor’s rule
ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa later this week at the invitation of Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, ARY News reported. The trip will mark Sharif’s first journey to the province since the declaration of emergency rule and the imposition of governor’s administration. He will be accompanied by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and several other cabinet members.
According to sources, the prime minister will receive a briefing at the Governor’s House on the province’s law‑and‑order situation and on ongoing development projects. He will also be updated on the twelve districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that have been most heavily impacted by terrorism. In addition, Sharif is expected to meet with tribal elders during the visit.
Earlier, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi met with Awami National Party chief Aimal Wali Khan. Kundi told the ANP leader, “I have come here with the request of cooperation for the betterment of the Pashtun land and the nation.” Wali Khan acknowledged that governor’s rule is a constitutional measure but described it as an undemocratic step, adding, “But it should be taken into consideration why we have reached to that extent.” He said the party’s complaints would be addressed after talks with the governor and affirmed that the ANP would support any side that works for the betterment of Pakhtunkhwa.
