Russia’s war in Ukraine heightens tension across Europe

European officials are increasingly concerned that the conflict in Ukraine could extend beyond its borders and affect neighboring NATO members. Some observers already point to a series of drone incursions, cyberattacks and acts of sabotage as evidence of a broader spill‑over.

Poland’s foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, warned that Europe must be prepared to meet Russia’s hybrid tactics with a strong response. Poland, which shares a border with Ukraine, hosts a NATO logistics hub that provides both military and civilian assistance to Kyiv.

The International Centre for Counterterrorism has identified Poland as the main target of Russia’s sabotage efforts in Europe. Harvard research also shows that Poland suffers the highest number of politically motivated cyberattacks, with roughly four thousand incidents recorded each day.

Polish authorities say the country is on heightened alert after several violations of its airspace, and they expect more drone and missile activity in the near future. Sikorski added that the war could only end if President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that his original objectives were unattainable and that the full‑scale invasion was a mistake.
